1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup (210g) brown sugar

  • mix in stand mixer until blended

2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs

  • add and mix until smooth

3 cups (415g) flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

  • mix dry ingredients then add slowly until combined
  • add more flour if dough is sticky, but not so much it becomes crumbly
  • adjust salt to taste, particularly if using unsalted butter

12 oz. (2 cups) chocolate chips

  • stir in chocolate chips, then cover and chill dough for 2 hours
  • scoop 1 oz./28g balls and bake at 375°F for 9 minutes, until just browning
  • cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes before removing to cooling rack
  • makes approx. 4 dozen cookies

8/28/23: made these as bar cookies in a 9x13” glass dish, but they were still underbaked when the top was browned. so either covering with foil to prevent over-browning, or halving the recipe and using an 8x8” for a thinner bar would be better.
