2 cans black beans, drained and dried

  • spread on a baking sheet and bake at 325°F for 15 minutes

1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 poblano pepper, chopped
1/2 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, sliced

  • saute vegetables in oil for 5 minutes

1 1/2 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese (or other sharp cheese like feta, parmesan, etc.) 2 eggs
1 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp. ketchup or bbq sauce
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

  • add all ingredients to food processor with sauteed vegetables and pulse
  • add black beans and pulse, leaving some larger chunks
  • form into patties using about 1/3 cup per patty
  • bake at 375°F for 10 minutes per side, or grill for 8 minutes per side (using foil or a vegetable grilling tray/basket)

06/10/22: Substituted 2 chipotles in adobo sauce for the poblano. The patties were nicely spicy and satisfyingly meaty when grilled on a vegetable grilling basket.
